One Story, Many Trees

Every window has a view to the yard or the tall trees beyond and it feels like a little patch of woods while still being accessible to everything!

Single-Level Living Space

This is a simple, one-story rambler. It’s been in place since 1961, holding steady while the garden and trees grow upward around it. The house itself doesn’t stretch into the sky, it leaves that to the evergreens encircling this little cul-de-sac neighborhood. A brand new roof protects the house while the cedars, fir, maples, dogwood, and oaks clean the air and give shade; it’s a pretty good arrangement.

The people saying goodbye to this home describe it as tucked away. They fondly remember the way the trees bring birds to the garden, remark on how quiet it is here. But even with that sense of quiet, that feeling of being tucked away, it’s actually close to all kinds of places—like the waterfront town of Steilacoom, like Fort Steilacoom Park full of trails and playfields and a playground and a big, off-leash park, like Lakewold Gardens, and the Lakewood Towne Center. It’s good to be home, and it’s good to get out too. We shared quite a bit about the neighborhood and location on our main page, so let’s get better acquainted with the story of this one-story.

The big living room windows make for a connection to the yard in all seasons, and have always let us spy on the birds!

Whether it’s the living room window overlooking the rhododendrons, magnolia, and burning bush, the box window over the kitchen sink with a view to the lilacs and evergreens in back, the French doors in the dining room, or the windows in the three bedrooms down the hall, each is a frame for green leaves, cedar, and fir.

It’s a comfortable house with the three bedrooms along the hall sharing a full bathroom. A laundry area is situated right outside the bathroom door. Everyone can have a private, quiet corner, and there’s even an additional room just a couple of steps down from the open living and dining room.

This bonus room has its own door to the back yard, and a door into the garage with its 1/2 bath. Set up guests or a roommate, or make it the playroom, music room, movie room, game room, or a home office.

We can’t hold you to this, but we strongly advise against replacing this aquarium style detail in the 1/2 bath. Too many fixtures are just the same old thing everywhere you go. Why not swim into the open waters of whimsy? We’ll leave it up to you.

When trees through the windows isn’t outdoorsy enough, the fenced backyard is the place to go. There’s room to garden, room to run, room to play. If you like, take your lunch out to the covered patio, pop outside with an ice cream bar, trim a little here, prune a little there, plant what you’ve always wanted to grow.
