“It’s been a fabulous investment property with huge upsides. I love the look and feel of the house with its 1905 charm. The house had everything that was desired.”
Home: This stately property in Tacoma’s North Slope Historic District holds 4 units including a gracious main floor that’s a complete home in itself. This is an opportunity to live in a home full of history and character with rental income for support.
Open the front door from the wraparound porch into an apartment spanning the entire main level. Oak hardwoods and a rounded bay window bring beauty to the living room, while the dining room is replete with original millwork from box beam ceilings to paneled walls and built-ins. The commercial style, eat-in kitchen creates contrast with its concrete counters and SubZero fridge. With 2 bedrooms, a bonus room, 2 baths, and a back deck overlooking the garden, there’s room to live, work and host.
The 2nd floor’s 1-bed, 1-bath units are both occupied and generating income; please respect tenant privacy. The basement studio is vacant.

1021 N 5th St History - The Cornell Brothers
This home was built in 1905 by the brothers Daniel and Ernest Cornell. Daniel and his family lived at 1021 and Ernest lived at 1015, the residence they built next door. The Cornell brothers operated a large construction firm and built many other local homes, including a home for the Weyerhaeuser family, and landmark buildings including First Presbyterian Church in Stadium and Tacoma’s iconic Elks Club, now the McMenamins Elks Temple! The homeowner shared that the Cornell Brothers even had their office at 1021 for a time, and notes that the huge tree on the corner was planted soon after the house was occupied. At one point the city was going to cut it down, but there was a huge neighborhood outcry to saved it. See the 2008 North Slope Historic District Walking Tour for more.

Meet friends for pizza on the patio at Hanks and stay around to watch the game.
Victorian homes and tree-lined streets decorate the Historic North Slope.
This multifamily home is set in Tacoma’s North Slope Historic District in what Tacoma folks call “the pie.” Just look at a map and you’ll see why. The North Slope, chock-full of historic homes on tree-lined streets, is known for its varied architecture from the Victorian era forward. It’s best to get out of the car and explore the pie at a human pace. You’ll find the only California Mission style church in the area, gardens so full the sidewalk becomes a tunnel through the greenery, a tiny pocket park, and a couple of beloved, local watering holes.
The NSHD is one of the largest historic districts in the country!
Visit Wright Park’s WW Seymour Botanical Conservatory for warmth and color at any time of year.
Mostly residential, the North Slope borders the Stadium District, a perfect companion neighborhood full of cafes, a grocery store, small businesses, a postal counter, restaurants (serving everything from shakes and fries to ramen and brunch), as well as a community theater, grocery store, and the iconic Stadium High School.
