Indoor-Outdoor Living

Making Home at 10505 Minterwood Dr NW

Because the neighborhood features a beautiful lake, our dogs have enjoyed daily walks around the lake, as well as trails behind the neighborhood. Visiting friends with kids really enjoy the playground by the lake, and kayaking.

Life by the Lake

Living on the Key Peninsula brings the saltwater shores of Carr Inlet, Case Inlet and all their various bays and coves close to home. Here in the Lake Minterwood neighborhood, the freshwater lake is even closer. The path to the lake starts just across the street from the driveway of 10505 Minterwood Dr NW, so it’s easy to wander over to sit beside the water for a minute or swing on the swings. Call a friend and carry a picnic to the park on the shore, bring a paddle board and float away for a while. Choosing a home is also choosing a place, and this place—if you’re open to it—could bring some peace, some variety, some fun. This is a place of shade under the evergreens, sun on the lake, and paths in the woods beyond.

Inside-Outside Days & Nights

I love the enclosed 2nd floor deck. It’s perfect for morning coffee or reading in the afternoon.

When we talk with the people who have lived in and loved this home, they talk most about the parts that connect them to the outdoors. They love the screened porch off the 2nd floor primary suite. A sliding glass door opens from the dressing room to the porch where one can sit for a quiet breath, listen to rain fall on the roof, listen to birds calling from the cedars, listen to voices of neighbors walking by. Might as well take it slow, bring a book, settle in.

Another favorite is the sunporch. French doors open from the dining room to an enclosed porch rimmed with windows. It’s for houseplants and happy hours, coastal-grandma wicker furniture and tea parties, for strumming a guitar and setting to-do lists aside. Also, it’s just a great place to wipe muddy paws if you have any of those in your household.

And the covered, wraparound deck in the fenced back yard cannot be left out. There’s a perfectly good dining room inside, but you might find yourself carrying more and more meals out to the deck just for the fun of it. There’s room for a big table out here, room for barbecues, potlucks, birthday parties, and pizza nights.

If you bring a fire table or patio heaters, you’ll be comfy out here as summer cools to fall. And never underestimate the power of a good wool sweater either. Life in the Pacific Northwest is all about layers and finding ways to be happy outside even when it’s drizzling. Oh, and make sure your friends bring a swimsuit—the covered hot tub is just a couple of stepping stones away.

As nature lovers, immediately attracting hummingbirds to our home was an exciting feature for us.
— Homeowner

Along with the lake, porches, and deck, there’s also plenty of space for getting out into the yard. Cherry trees bloom in the front and back in spring. Cedars and firs provide shade and life to birds and wildlife. A fragrant honeysuckle vine reaches up and over the fence beside the garage. Roses grow under the kitchen window. Bracken fern come up each year under the evergreens beside the driveway and wildflowers bloom along the front path. Maybe you’ve been meaning to get out more—out under the sky, out on the water, out where hummingbirds buzz, out where the world is waiting—this could be your place to begin.
