Home: Someone’s dreaming of this place, though they haven’t met yet. Someone with a green thumb, maybe. With a mind full of colorful flowers and drawers stuffed with seed catalogs. Someone yearning for a bit of space—not formal dining rooms and a giant laundry kind of space—more like the open kind where the breezes blow, where feet and paws can run with abandon, where birds cross the sky, and cider-pressing has its own season.
At the end of the road a one-story farmhouse lives between an orchard and secluded meadow on a level, shy-acre framed by quaking aspen, fir, and ash trees. Approach on the paved and gated driveway which leads to a 2-car garage with an attached workshop and canning room. Pick apples, plums, pears, cherries, and figs from mature trees; roam freely in the grass, and plant vegetables in sun-soaked garden beds. Store your equipment in the big garden shed then head inside to prepare homegrown produce in the eat-in kitchen. Relax by watching the leaves change from the sun porch, curling up next to the wood stove, or soaking in the primary suite's private bath.

Location
When you arrive here, you’ve left the city behind, the size of the lot alone will tell you that. Across the road the designated wetland increases the quiet and welcomes birds. Farmland on Vickery and all around nearby Puyallup create a sense of space and seasonal rhythms. Join in u-pick offerings, shop at local farmstands, and celebrate harvest fests with pumpkin patches, apple cider, and corn mazes.
Even in this more rural area of Summit, it’s easy to get where you want to go. If your working days aren’t done, you can get to a job in downtown Puyallup in under 15 minutes, reach downtown Tacoma in less than 20 minutes, or park at the Tacoma Dome Station and catch the bus or Sounder.
Grocery stores, a butcher shop, and Wilco Farm Store are all handy—even Costco is under 4 miles away—and Watson’s, one of the best nurseries in the area, is just 10 minutes from the house. It’s packed with trees, shrubs, perennials, herbs, houseplants, and annuals for your flower pots and hanging baskets. Find whatever you aren’t growing in the garden at a seasonal farmers’ market in nearby Puyallup or at L’Arche Farm on Vickery where you can sign up for a flower and produce share all summer long, or just stop by for dahlia bouquets and to shop from their nursery. L’Arche also hosts community events like wreath making and flower arranging.
Go explore the mixed-use trails on foot, horseback, or mountain bike at Orangegate park up the road. Pack a picnic, sit by the lake, play on the playground, or bring your fishing pole to Bradley Lake. If you’re looking for blueberries, bring a pail and pick your own for free at Charlotte’s Blueberry Park 10 minutes away. Of course, if you really love blueberries, there’s plenty of room to plant your own here at home.
When brunch or coffee and a pastry with a friend sounds nice, it’s well worth the 15 minute drive across Puyallup to Farm 12 where their restaurant and coffee shop are surrounded by gardens, fountains, and farmland. For date night make a reservation, head over to Parkland and sit down for homemade pasta and delicious dessert at Marzano right next to Pacific Lutheran University.

Sun Porch
What better way to enter a house than through a room of windows? Come in through the enclosed sun porch, but don’t just leave it behind. Come back to sit and soak up the light while the quaking aspen leaves begin to change from summer green to autumn gold. Bring a book, bring a cat or dog, a potted fern, a pitcher of iced tea, or a pot of hot coffee. Be inside looking outside with windows facing south for sunlight all through the day.
Living Room
Take the door from the sun porch into the living room with its brick hearth surrounding a wood stove and windows onto the porch. The east end of the living room is a perfect place to set up a dining area, a second lounging spot, or a play space. Spend fall and winter evenings curled up by the wood stove, get a puzzle out, watch your favorite movie, or get the record player going. This is the place to let the work and worries of the day fall away.
Eat-in Kitchen
The eat-in kitchen includes a full set of appliances so you can get cooking right away. Plant basil and blend up some pesto. Bring in a pail of apples and set a pot of applesauce to simmer. Slice peaches, eat cherries like candy, and bake whatever fruit you find into a nice, big pie. Set up a kitchen table for casual meals and sit at the island for a snack. But you may want to carry your coffee out to the sun porch in the mornings, and remember there’s room for another dining table out in the living area—just depends on how you’d like to use the space. This kitchen is finished with stone countertops, a tile backsplash, and a wide, stainless sink.
Primary Suite with a Private Full Bath
Take the back hall off the kitchen and turn into the primary bedroom. You’ll notice shelving behind sliding doors just across from the bathroom as you move toward the bed. Settle into this private room in the NW corner of the home with a view of the orchard and a second window facing north toward the garage. The suite includes a full bath with a tiled shower-tub, a window to slide open for extra ventilation, and a vanity finished with a stone counter and tile backsplash.
Two Additional Bedrooms
The 2nd bedroom is located just off the kitchen with a window facing west toward the orchard. A wood-paneled closet finishes the room. Find the 3rd bedroom on the east side of the house just off the living-dining room with windows facing south and east. Depending on the number of bedrooms needed for your household, either of these bedrooms makes a good office as well.
3/4 Bath
This bathroom is especially practical if you’re just coming in the back door for a quick break from gardening or doing some carpentry in the workshop. Take a left from the back door and take one step down into this 3/4 bath complete with a stall shower, stone vanity top, tile backsplash, vinyl flooring, and storage in the cupboard under the sink. Remember there’s also a shower/bath combo in the primary suite—it’s so convenient to have two places to wash up in the house!
Back Hall & Laundry
A wide hall extends from the back entrance with a door to the 3/4 bath on one side, and the door to the primary suite just a few feet further in. Place a bench along the wall to create a nice spot to sit down, take off shoes, and hang your jacket.
The washer and dryer set stand ready behind folding doors for easy access from the kitchen. No tramping down to a dark basement to do the wash in this house.
Outbuildings
Pick fruit, grow a garden, build in the workshop, and enjoy the fresh air at this Summit homestead. Along with a 3-bedroom house on this 41,600 sq ft (0.955 acres) lot, you'll find a 2-car garage, workshop, garden shed, orchard, raised beds, shade trees, and plenty of open grass.
Followed the paved driveway to the 480 sq ft detached garage with a 336 sq ft workshop and storage room attached. Take a look inside the garage with some built-in shelving, open beams, and plenty of space to park vehicles, the riding mower, or other equipment.
Move easily between the house, back patio, garage, and attached workshop with the garden shed just beyond. At one end, the 336 sq ft workshop offers pegboard, work tables, and storage shelves. The other end of the workshop offers more work surfaces, shelving, open floorspace, and a doorway into the garage.
At the back of the workshop, open a door into the storage room that's been the perfect place to line up lots of home-canned fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden.
An open meadow stretches beyond the house to the east framed by fir, quaking aspen, and birch. You’ll find the garden shed near the northern border of the lot with the raised beds just beyond.
This shed offers 252 sq ft of interior storage space for tools and equipment, as well as covered areas outside.
Orchard
When you're ready to explore more of the grounds, visit the orchard. Mature fruit trees are full of figs, plums, apples, pears, snow peaches, and cherries. A wooden fence borders the west end of the lot with the orchard growing in the NW corner. It might be time to invest in a cider press so you can make your own fresh juice. Call some friends, tell them to bring an empty jug and a potluck dish; make it a harvest party.
Meadow & Garden
This is a home where you have freedom to roam and run, plant and grow. Notice the mature plum tree in the yard near the house. Its exceptionally juicy fruit ripened in July—something to look forward to next summer. The orchard grows to the west of the house on the 41,600 sq ft lot while this open land and garden stretch to the east.
Paved Driveway at the end of the road
Turn into the paved driveway with its gated entry. Red berries fill the branches of the mountain ash near the gate and a chestnut shades the house. Pull into the driveway or park here at the end of this quiet road where your mailbox waits. There’s plenty of room for friends and visitors to park; might as well host a picnic in the meadow or a bbq on the back patio before the weather turns.
Maybe this is the place you’ve been dreaming of, the place where you’ll cook your dinners, plant your favorite tomatoes, put seeds for sunflowers in the earth, tinker in the workshop, and nestle in by the stove for winter.
