Home: In this University Place home there’s room for everyone, room for guests, room for an office and arts studio, room for so much light through the big windows. There’s room for movie nights by the gas fireplace, for cookouts on the newly built deck, for tea in the front sitting room. And there’s room for linens, puzzles and games in the many closets. Have a friend over, there’s room. Take up painting or quilting or yoga, there’s a perfect room for that. Bring your pets, unpack your snow globe collection, host a game night. Bring your imagination, your hope for a new phase in a different spot—there’s room for that too.

Of the 5 bedrooms in this home 1 is on the main floor beside the ½ bath, and 4 inhabit the 2nd floor along with a large studio-office and a full bath. The other bedrooms are for everyone else; you’ll be resting in the primary suite with a 5-piece bath and walk-in closet. The 2nd floor is where you’ll find lots of quiet corners while the main floor is set up with a nice open flow for spending time together. Gather for weekday meals in the eat-in kitchen and set the dining room for holidays. A brand new roof covers all and a fenced back yard keeps it easy outside.

Location

University Place is a well-loved community on the shores of the Salish Sea just south of the Tacoma Narrows, and North of Steilacoom. And it’s where you’ll find Chambers Bay Golf Course, host of the 2015 US Open. The public course is surrounded by a waterfront park, including a 3.25 mile loop trail with views across the Sound to the Olympic Mountains, a playground, a big lawn for picnics and kite-flying, and the Chambers Bay Grill

Visit the library or eat ice cream from Bliss Creamery in Market Square just 6 minutes from home.

Play a round at the public Chambers Bay Golf Course with special rates for locals, or take the loop path around the course.

Amenities such as the University Place Pierce County Library are just a short drive away as well. Incidentally, you'll also see Bliss Creamery right there between the library and Whole Food. Don't forget our locally owned grocery—Harbor Greens is just 3 miles away on Bridgeport and it's a wonderful source for fresh produce, take-and-bake pizza, wine, and nursery items like flowering baskets. Trader Joe's is a 7 minute drive away, so there really is a good selection of grocery options within easy reach.

Head down to Narrows Marina for waterfront dining at Boathouse 19 just beyond the border of University Place in West Tacoma less than 15 minutes from home.

University Place is great for folks of any age. Explore the variety of parks and playfields, get out on the golf courses, visit the community garden, and head south to scenic Steilacoom for lunch or a coffee date. Tacoma with its hospitals, museums, farmers markets, and annual events is your neighbor, so you can get in on all the action there too.

Branch out just a bit beyond University Place into Tacoma’s West Slope for Narrow’s Brewing on the Narrows Marina, waterfront dining at Boathouse 19, trails and a playground at Titlow Beach Park and other destinations on Tacoma's westside waterfront, just about a 12 minute drive from home.

Find flowering baskets, fall pumpkins, Christmas trees, produce and specialty groceries at Harbor Greens just 8 minutes from 6621 61st St W.

The heart of the historic South Tacoma Way business district is another Tacoma neighborhood within easy reach of this home. Reach the city’s absolute favorite bagels at Howdy Bagel and enjoy freshly roasted coffee at Bluebeard’s brand new roastery and cafe (an expansion from their beloved 6th Ave location) both just 6 minutes away. You’ll find great bars along the street and can pick out your next favorite houseplant at The Fernseed.

Entry

A covered porch and vaulted ceiling entry welcome visitors. Right away you’ll notice how the high ceilings, big windows, and recessed lighting keep this house bright. Take coats to your choice of closets including one between the kitchen and dining room.

Vinyl plank flooring here in the entry and throughout much of the main floor was newly installed in 2023.

Dining Room & Front Sitting Room

These rooms to the right and left of the entry are your dynamic duo when it comes to hosting. Make them as pretty as you please. Set the table in the dining room for special nights and holiday dinners. Serve appetizers and bubbles in the sitting room before “going through” to the dining room. If you don’t know what we mean, watch a couple episodes of Downton Abbey. But the thing is, if you’re not much for fancy parties, pizza tastes good in the dining room too. And the front sitting room might just fill up with houseplants, books, your squishiest armchair, and a bed for the dog. It's your house—do what you want!

Speaking of the front sitting room, can we please just call it the parlor and you can bring your davenport and all your sparkliest glassware and family heirlooms and a potted palm (all the rage in Victorian times, so we hear) and serve tea and sherry? Whatever you call it, this sitting room beside the entry at the front of the home makes a nice companion space to the dining room, and a convenient alternative to the living room because sometimes you just want to read a book while other people play video games—there’s room for all of it.

Fireside Living Room

Big, west-facing windows brighten the living room with a gas insert fireplace for autumn and winter coziness. The heat pump keeps the house warm or cool—however you want it for the season— but there’s nothing quite like a fireplace for down-to-your-bones comfort. Cue homemade quilts, hot drinks, and quiet chats.

The living room opens into the kitchen for a friendly flow and keeps whoever’s in there cooking stew or baking bread or microwaving popcorn from getting left out.

Eat-in Kitchen & Laundry

Fully renovated in 2016, the eat-in kitchen provides an abundance of cupboards, plus a pantry, quartz counters, and an undermount, apron front sink. There's plenty of room for a kitchen table by the sliding glass doors, or just pull a stool up to the island. Notice the gas cooktop, the additional storage in the island (including a cubby for the microwave), a full pantry closet, and the easy access to the laundry room.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: if you’ve been hauling laundry down rickety basement stairs or across town to a laundromat, this is an exciting room! Just off the kitchen, the laundry room includes a cabinet with pull out drawers, a closet for more storage, and direct access to the 2-car garage.

Main Floor Bedroom-Office

This main floor has it all. Find a bedroom at the end of the hall perfect for folks who don't prefer the stairs. It makes a great office or guest room if a 5th bedroom isn't needed.

Main Floor Half Bath

A main floor half bath with new vinyl plank flooring is ready right beside the bedroom and there's a closet just outside for linens and other supplies. (Closets are kind of a thing in this house.)

Primary Suite with 5-Piece Bath & Walk-in Closet

Let’s take the stairs and see what’s on the 2nd floor. First things first, we'll visit the primary suite with a wide window over the back yard where the leaves are just beginning to change. The suite includes a private, 5-piece bathroom with a soaking tub, separate shower, and a walk-in closet. A spacious vanity offers 2 sinks, and lots of storage. But don’t just breeze through. Give yourself a little spa imagination moment—soaking tub followed by fireside on a chilly autumn evening. Might as well enjoy it.

Studio-Office

Double doors at the top of the stairs open into this spacious studio room perfect for a home office, private den, art space, exercise room, or one more place for comfy movie nights. If we’re overusing “cozy” and “comfy” it may just be that fall is so close we can almost taste it. You could be sad about the end of summer, or you could imagine all the ways this house will keep your warm, dry, sheltered, and hopefully even happy through the darker seasons.

Landing with Closets

A skylight illuminates the landing with two closets on the right and a third at the end of the hall just outside the full bath. Tuck sheets and comforters, puzzles, games, seasonal decorations, and all kinds of things away in these hall closets so your bedroom ones don’t get crammed.

Full Bath

This full bath with a shower-tub combo and a vanity with plenty of storage is set between two bedrooms at the south end of the 2nd floor.

3 Additional Bedrooms

Each of the three 2nd floor bedrooms is complete with a generous closet, and finished with simple trim and freshly-cleaned carpet.

Garage & Grounds

This home with its brand new roof is set on a 6,159 square foot lot with neighbors to each side and a neighborhood park to the southwest. Take the sliding glass door from the kitchen out to the patio in the fully fenced back yard. The deck was rebuilt this summer and a pergola frame is just waiting for an outdoor dining or lounge set to compete it—something to look forward to next year. Fully fenced and bordered by mature trees, the back yard is low-maintenance and private.

Park in the 2-car garage and come in through the back door that leads into the laundry room. Friends and visitors can park along the street or in the paved driveway with a path to the covered front porch. Once you open the front door to let guests in, you might as well put the kettle on and light the fire—they’ll likely stay awhile. And who could blame them?
