This South End home is newly back on the market after the original buyers had an unfortunate life change that prevented closing. Perhaps it will be the right one for someone new, someone like you. So let’s get you introduced. Half a mile from Wapato Lake and the off-leash park, this one-story home is set on a large lot offering plenty of room to grow. Grow a country garden with tomatoes, squash, corn and peas. Grow all your favorite flowers. Or take advantage of the extra space by expanding the footprint of the house. The floor plan is compact, yet comfortable with the living room opening into an eat-in kitchen where morning light fills the east window. Both bedrooms offer easy bathroom access and good storage.

Maybe it’s exactly what you need, a just-right size. Maybe it’s just-right for now, with dreams of building a backyard studio, an ADU, a garage, or adding on rooms for a larger home in future—on a 9,525 sq ft lot the possibilities are many. Keep all those possibilities in mind and keep tools and patio furniture in the 2-level garden shed. Park in the paved driveway. Decorate the classic front porch for the seasons. Step right in from the fully-fenced back yard to the convenient half bath. Hang a hammock in summer, enjoy the perennial plantings, and look forward to hidden tulips, daffodils, and anemones blooming in spring.

Covered Porch Entry

A paved garden path leads from the driveway and the curbed street up to a friendly front porch flanked by hydrangeas and a white lilac. An old-fashioned wisteria frames the entrance, bidding welcome to all who love a bit of blossom and a nod to days gone by. Set a bench or wicker chair under the shady cover of the porch for a full embrace of nostalgia. And don’t forget the lemonade.

Living Room

The front door opens from the covered porch into the living room where east and south windows bring in natural light. Two overhead fixtures help with that too, removing the need for floor lamps which saves space as well. It’s a cozy spot that connects to the kitchen and opens into the hall with the full bath on one side and a bedroom on the other.

Eat-in Kitchen

In the kitchen an east window overlooks the front garden and welcomes the morning light. Sit at the table with a cup of coffee or tea, a stack of pancakes or a simple bowl of granola, and look out through the branches of the lilac. The kitchen offers all the necessities: oven and range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and a sink with a window right above it (without that window a kitchen isn’t quite complete). A tile backsplash extends up from the Corian countertops and the cabinets leave plenty of room for taller items like a mixer or microwave to stand beneath.

Primary Bedroom

Step through from the living room to the primary bedroom in the SW corner of the home with the full bath just a few feet away. Two mirrored closets provide good clothes storage and there’s room for a wide dresser as well. A west-facing window overlooks the back yard with all its flower beds, trees, and outbuilding.

Full Bath

The full bath is finished with calm colors, a tile backsplash, a tile shower/tub surround, and vinyl floor. The vanity offers drawers and a cabinet for storage, and there are cubbies built into the wall on the left of the vanity top as well. An undermount sink makes for easy counter clean-up.

2nd Bedroom

Find the 2nd bedroom just off the kitchen in the NW corner of the home. Although this room is further from the full bath, the home’s half bath is just through the door beyond the bed. Depending on the needs of the household, this room could also make for a good office space.

Half Bath

Move through the second bedroom, or come in the back door to reach this half bath located just off the laundry. Bright and simple, with open shelving and vanity storage, this room looks out over the fully fenced back yard.

Laundry

The laundry room stands just inside the back door with bright western light shining in on the open shelving (pointing that out in case you have houseplants on the mind).

Garden & Grounds

The homeowners love this home and they’re going to miss it; a strong part of the connection they feel is due to this expansive lot, to the flowers they’ve planted, the trees they’ve tended, and the big outbuilding they built. The garden shed serves not just as a storage building for tools, planter pots, and patio furniture, but as a shaded barbecue and outdoor dining spot. Its deep eaves create a covered patio area and the posts offer a place for the hammock to hang. Notice the hammock chair in the black walnut too—a good thought to keep in mind when this place becomes home.

What will you find in the fully-fenced back yard? The outbuilding, raised beds for veggies, a fire pit, a small back porch leading to the back door (inside which is the half bath), and flower beds bordering the fence planted with peonies, zinnias, dahlias, bleeding heart, lavender, and more. You’ll find the jasmine-scented clerodendrum (or glorybower) by the lovely smell in the air. There’s room to run and play, room for more gardens, more growth, room to breathe and imagine what’s next.

The front yard offers plenty too. Take a look at the aerial view of the whole 9, 525 sq ft lot below to get a good sense of the space. Even the side yard is open and roomy with its plum trees and pear. The plums are another thing the homeowners will miss. They’re delicious fresh off the branch, and really tasty in cakes and tarts too. The paved driveway provides room for off-street parking, and the lot is set on a curbed street with a sidewalk.

What’s growing here? Look for blue and white hydrangeas, viburnum (snowball bush), and wisteria keeping company with the porch. Hostas and a white lilac grow in the garden bed under the kitchen window. A white dogwood, Japanese maple, dahlias, and various perennials border the sidewalk. Look forward to a carpet of bluebells near the porch in spring along with tulips, daffodils, anemones, and ranunculus throughout the spring garden.
