Connect to Community: 4 Ways this Week

IMG_2607.jpeg

Another weekend and week of Tacoma community opportunities is coming your way. If your way right now is a bit more like layer cake under layers of blankets without layers of makeup but with layers of cozy tracks, go ahead and ignore this list. But, if you’re starting to feel like you need a REASON TO GO OUT, go ahead and take a look. You’ll find treasure hunts of the vintage and monkeyshines variety, an encouragement to eat pizza (as if that’s necessary), and a Gal/Pal/Valentine charcuterie order form. We’ll be back with more next week!

P.S. Are you relieved to see the smallest blooms beginning to open? Primroses, grape hyacinths, crocus shoots, quince buds, that strangely early pink cherry in the Central Co-op parking lot. Keep your eyes open.

1. Lincoln District Vintage Walk

Saturday & Sunday
February 6th - 7th
11 am - 5 pm

Get this self-paced hunt for vintage in Tacoma’s Lincoln District on your calendar for the 1st weekend of every month. That’s good news!

Visit All Star Vintage, Casita, and any Lincoln District business you already love or want to know.

2. National Pizza Day - Support a Tacoma Pizza Maker!

Tuesday, February 9th

It’s really important to celebrate made-up holidays you didn’t know existed when they involve an excuse to eat pizza. No one is saying you need an excuse to eat pizza, because you don’t. You’re in charge of your pizza intake. But if you do need a nudge, want an invitation, require permission consider yourself gently pushed, invited, and granted your hall pass to the pizza corridor. It’s National Pizza day, so get thyself to thy favorite Tacoma pizza pie establishment and order up. If you have several favorites, consider a multi-course meal consisting of pizza at every course. If you don’t know where to buy pizza (consider exploring your life and how it’s really going), pick one from the list below.

3. It’s Treasure Hunt Time: Tacoma Monkeyshines

Ready for some whimsy? If you’re in Tacoma, you’re in the right place. Or are you? You never know where in the city the Monkeyshines might show up. Lunar New Year is Friday, February 12th, but Monkeyshines aren’t necessarily predictable treasures. They might be hiding days before the Lunar New Year, and they may continue to hide for quite some time after. Read more about the history and continuing story of Tacoma Monkeyshines at Grit City Magazine!

4. Celebrate & Support a Local, Woman-Owned Small Business!

Charcuterie Boxes
Pick-up Sunday, February 14th
4 - 7 pm

Molly’s Tamales is a local, small business owned by Molly Alvarado - community advocate, chef, teacher, and creative person! Order a charcuterie box from Molly to enjoy on your own, with a friend/partner/lover/companion, or with your family. She’s offering 3 sizes of charcuterie boxes, and you can even select vegetarian or vegan on the order form. Who cares if Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing? That doesn’t mean you can’t have a fabulous treat on a Sunday that happens to be that day. We’re including this on the week before of the order pick-up day so you can make your order now, and give Molly time to prepare for your pick-up.
