Fircrest

A small town nestled between Tacoma and University Place, Fircrest is a serene little area that attracts everyone from families to retirees. Bucolic parks and quaint shops bring the population of just under 7,000 together in shared community spaces. Fircrest remains generally quiet and easy-going with a strong value for old-fashioned community fun like annual festivals, costume contests, strawberry shortcake celebrations, tree-lightings, and scavenger hunts.

Easy access to highways and the freeway allows you to get around the greater Tacoma area quickly, while proximity to both Tacoma and University Place affords you a plentiful selection of restaurants, bars, and unique stores. While Fircrest used to be a dry municipality, meaning that alcohol was not allowed to be poured by the glass, that was repealed in 2015. Because of that, this little nook of a community has been afforded the right to have bars open up in the area.

Fircrest residents love meeting for meals at Spring Lake Cafe, picking up sandwiches at Espresso Yourself, or sitting out on the cafe patio with a latte and scone. Residents gather at the playground, attend events at the community center, and spend the summer at the community pool.

A number of the streets are named after higher learning colleges, such as Princeton, Dartmouth, and Yale, but the largest school in the neighborhood is Wainwright Elementary School. Parks are named in honor of special Fircrest residents.

Fircrest has its own little downtown, a business district with cafes, a swim shop, tea shop, pet store, and more. It’s hard to say goodbye to Viafore’s Italian Delicatessen, but the family retired in the summer of 2020. Keep an eye out for what’s next!

The Fircrest Golf Club sits on 160 acres, a private 18-hole course since its beginning in 1923.
